Notes for Edward John THURTELL

Information received in 1997 from Peter Murray shows that Edward John Thurtell, born March 12, 1902, died in 1974. His address (ca.1930?) was Box 403, Bulawayo, South Rhodesia. On November 29, 1924, he was married to Natalie Oats (or Cats?), born 1917. They had at least one son (and possibly one daughter?).

Edward John Thurtell may be the E. J. Thurtell listed in the 1948 Directory of Rhodesia (looked up in 1999 by William Jervois, Albany Museum, Grahamstown, South Africa - email W.Jervois@@ru.ac.za). This directory showed E. J. Thurtell at the corner of Perth and Rothesay Roads, Salisbury, Rhodesia. Miss J. M. Thurtell was living at 113, Perth Road, Avondale, Rhodesia. Avonday was a fairly wealthy suburb on the northern outskirts of the city of Salisbury (now - as of 1999 - Harare).
