Notes for Edward Goddard THURTELL
All the information about Edward Goddard Thurtell and his descendants was received from Peter Murray in 1997. These records show that Edward Goddard Thurtell, who emigrated to South Africa and founded a large family in South Africa and Rhodesia, appears in the account of the Thurtell Family in England as the eldest son of Capt. John Brooks Thurtell of Yarmouth whose father John Thurtell of Pakefield Suffolk was eldest son of John and Anne (Browne) Thurtell of Hopton Suffolk, who were the common ancestors of the Thurtell and Murray families.
Edward Goddard Thurtell was born September 19, 1840, and died May 25, 1888. He emigrated to South Africa from England and is buried on the farm Cheviot Fells, West Bedford, Cape Province. He married at Adelaide C.P., Sophie Dewing, who died September 9, 1914, at Port Elizabeth C.P. They had four children mentioned in family records.
His death card shows he was born in the County of Norfolk, England, on September 19, 1840, and died at Cheviot Fells, West Bedford, Cape Colony, South Africa, on May 25, 1888.
