The 1870 U.S. Census for Groton, Caledonia County, Vermont, on page 72A, lists Jonathan Welch as a white male age 66, born in Vermont, and a farmer with real estate valued at $10,000 and a personal estate valued at $2000, and eligible to vote. Living with him is Martha Welch, a white female age 60 who was born in Vermont and whose occupation is keeping house. None of the parents of either of them were of foreign birth. With them is Nathaniel Page, a white male age 23 who was born in Vermont, iseligible to vote, and whose occupation is shownas farm laborer. On page 72B probably with this family is Henry Hoage, a white male age 9 who was born in Vermont and attends school.
