LDS Batch C044461 shows James Thurtell was christened at St. Julian, Norwich, Norfolk, England, on November 2, 1770. Two earlier brothers named James, who were christened November 27, 1760, and May 21, 1769, died young.

The 1900 family tree done by Harriet Thurtell and the Thurtell Pedigree showed that James Thurtell, son of James and Winifred Nunn Thurtell, married (no wife's name shown) and had children Helen Thurtell, who married Joyce; Unknown Daughter Thurtell, who married Fanning and may have had children; James Thurtell, who married (1) ? and (2) Miss Pedgrift; Emily Thurtell, who married Kershaw; and Mary Thurtell, who was unmarried.

The IGI shows James Thurtell married Elizabeth Watson on July 13, 1807, in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England. The 1998 British Vital Records Index CD shows James Thurtell and Elizabeth Watson were married July 30, 1807, and that the marriage was recorded in St. Nicholas, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England (source: FHL number 1526456).
