Notes for Simon J. EMERY

Reverend Rufus Emery's 1890 book, "Genealogical Records of Descendants of John and Anthony Emery of Newbury, Mass." showed that person 29 in the section of the Descendants of Anthony Emery was Simon Emery, the son of Daniel and Margaret (Gowen) Emery. It shows that Simon Emery was married on October 21, 1725, to Martha Lord, the daughter of Nathan Lord, Jr. This book on pages 317-318 shows that Simon Emery made his will on November 8, 1760, which was proved on November 22, 1760. He signed the Kittery Memorial on March 20, 1751, and was on the "Alarm List" in 1757. He was a grand juror 1744-1750, and a surveyor of highways 1745, 1746, and 1748. He died November 10, 1760, and his wife died April 29, 1760. It lists his children and shows that all of them were born in Kittery, Maine.

It shows that Simon Emery was born on January 6, 1702, in Berwick, Maine, where his siblings were born as well. Another family source had shown he was born in Kittery, Maine, on the same date. It shows on page 313 that his parents were Daniel Emery and Margaret Gowen, alias Smith.

The book "New England Families Genealogical and Memorial: Volume IV," by William Richard Cutter, originally published in 1913, and reprinted in Baltimore by Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc., 1996, available on the internet in January 2000 in the Family Tree Maker Online Library on page 2010 shows "Simon, son of Daniel Emery, was born in Berwick, Maine, January 6, 1702. and died November 10. 1780. He lived in Kittery, and March 20, 1751, signed the Kittery Memorial. He was on the alarm list in 1757, and a juror in 1744-50. He was surveyor of highways in 1745-46-48. He married, October 21, 1725, Martha Lord, who died April 29, 1760, daughter of Nathan Lord Jr. His will was dated November 8 and proved November 22, 1780.
