Notes for Margaret THURTELL

Information received from Peter Murray in 1997 indicated that Margaret Thurtell Stenzel died about 1952 but that the correct date of death could have been more than 10 years later.

The obituary of Margaret Stenzel that appeared in "The News Guard," Lincoln City, Oregon, on May 8, 1969, in section 1, page 6, is on file at the Lincoln City, Oregon, Public Library. It confirms that she died in Portland, Oregon, on April 26, 1969. It reads, "Marty Stenzel - Word has been received here of the death of Margaret (Marty} Stenzel, Portland, daughter of Dr. Wilfred S. Thurtell of Salem and Neotsu. Mrs. Stenzel, who was born April 22, 1921, in Limerick, Saskatchewan, Canada, died Apr. 26 in Portland. She came to Oregon with her parents in 1924, settling in Newport, where she attended grade school. Mrs. Stenzel also attended St. Helen's Hall in Portland and Oregon State University. Other survivors include her husband, Frank; and two daughters, Janet Gibbons and Carol Stenzel of Portland."
