Notes for Harriett Ada Marian THURTELL

The 1963 Thurtell Family History and the History of the Thurtell Family done about 1968 by Susan Persia Thurtell show Harriet Ada Thurtell married William Cleghorn.

Most of the information about Harriett Ada Marian Thurtell and her family was provided by Charlotte Angst Mackie in 1997. It shows Harriett was married to William "Bill" Andrew Cleghorn on February 17, 1934, at St. Georges Anglican Church, Guelph, Ontario, Canada, on a day when the temperature was 17 degrees below zero fahrenheit. She died December 29, 1986, at Cambridge Memorial Hospital, and was buried in Block K at Woodlawn Cemetery, Guelph, Ontario, Canada.

In a letter received in February 2000 from Charlotte Mackie, she advised that Harriett Cleghorn had been in a nursing home in the Cambridge area and was therefore taken to Cambridge Memorial Hospital, Cambridge, Ontario, Canada, where she passed away.

A brochure prepared by Charlotte V. Mackie, of Guelph, Ontario, "Benjamin Thurtell and Descendants" for the "Woodlawn Cemetery Self Guided Memorial Walking Tour," Woodlawn Cemetery, 762 Woolwich Street, Guelph, Ontario, Canada N1H 3Z1,shows that Harriett and William Cleghorn purchased the farm across from the Thurtell homestead, where they raised their three children. "Harriett was active in Knox Presbyterian Church, the Missionary Society, West End Institute, and Guelph Township Horticulture, and was an avid gardener." After she and her husband retired to Guelph, their son Robert and his family continued on the farm. She is buried in this cemetery.
