Elsa McComb spoke fluent Polish and Spanish as well as, of course, English. All four of the Kasner children spoke Polish at home before they began school. Elsa learned Spanish while living with her husband in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Caracas, Venezuela. Her husband worked for General Motors for many years, and they lived in several different countries, including Port Elizabeth, South Africa, Bombay, India, and London, England. After the death of Willis McComb, Elsa moved back to Michigan. She lived for many years at 7188 Pebble Park Drive, West Bloomfield, Michigan 48033. She moved from that address in about 1993, and her mailing address after that was the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Clifford and Pam McComb, 36157 Fredericksburg Road, Farmington Hills, Michigan 48331.

She had suffered from severe arthritis for many years and had had several joints replaced in about the 1980's. She had a delightful sense of humor and loved to talk to everyone.

The Social Security death index showed that her Social Security number 363-01-9185 was issued in Michigan before 1951 and that she died January 16, 1998, with her residence address in Farmington Hills, Oakland County, Michigan, zip code 48331. A December 20, 1999, e-mail from her son, Clifford T. McComb, showed that her health had been failing for several years aggravated by increasing dementia and that for the three years before her death she had no idea who she was, who they were, etc. and that her death in January 1998 had been a blessing, ending the nightmare.

Social Security records confirm that Elsa A. McComb filed for Social Security widow's benefits on the account of her husband, Willis M. McComb, Social Security number 380-07-8721, in March 1979 and began receiving these benefits effective July 1979 at age 60. A birth or baptismal certificate recorded before age 5 was provided at the time she filed to confirm her date of birth was July 8, 1919. Her mailing address at the time she passed away on January 16, 1998, was 36157 Frederickburg, Farmington Hills, Michigan 48331-3113. Her husband had passed away on August 29, 1972, and a claim had been processed in the Social Security office in Pontiac, Michigan, in November 1972, probably for the $255 lump sum death payment.
