Notes for Elizabeth M. MORRISON

Much of the information about Timothy Morrison and his family is from a listing of births and deaths of the Morrison family in the handwriting of Mate Snow Thurtell written in the early 1930's with the annotation "The old family Bible was gone - no one knew anything about it. These names and dates were copied in the one Bible they have now." This sheet is in the possession of Susan Persia Thurtell Miller. This sheet shows Betsey Morrison born September 21, 1844, and her sister, Elizabeth Maria Morrison born April 24, 1842.

Records of the Groton Town Clerk, Caledonia County, Groton, Vermont, confirm that Betsey's name was Elizabeth M. Morrison, born September 21, 1844. Her sister is Maria P. Morrison, born April 24, 1842.

Timothy Morrison and his family are listed in the 1850 U.S. Census for Groton, Caledonia County, Vermont (Cale 137, lines 154-158). This shows Timothy Morrison, age 45, a farmer, owning real estate valued at $2800, living with his wife, Olive, age 42, and his children Harriet age 19, Christine age 16, Braley (should be Bradley) age 13, George age 11, Mariah age 8, and Betsey age 5. All of them were born in Vermont. The census was ennumerated on September 13, 1850, with the information as of June 1, 1850.

Timothy Morrison is also listed in the Vermont 1840 U.S. Census index (Cale 360, Groton). He is not listed in the Vermont 1820 or 1830 U.S. Census indexes.

A telephone conversation with Mary Werch, Reference Librarian at the Roy E. Estle Memorial Library, Dallas Center, Iowa, phone 515-992-3185, discussed a book at their library showing Dallas County marriages. This book showed that Charles B. Snow married Maria P. Morrison on January 2, 1862; A. J. Snow married Betsey Morrison on March 18, 1865; and Laura E. Snow married Edward Richmond on March 27, 1880.
