Notes for Elizabeth Ann THURTELL

The family tree done by Harriet Thurtell about 1900, the 1963 Thurtell Family History, and the History of the Thurtell Family done by Susan Persia Thurtell about 1968, all in possession of Susan Persia Thurtell Miller, list Elizabeth Ann Thurtell, her husband, and their children.

Information received from Charlotte Angst Mackie shows that Elizabeth Thurtell was born in England but was baptised July 29, 1838, in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. She was the oldest daughter of Benjamin and Anne Barber Thurtell. Elizabeth died in childbirth and is buried in Puslinch, Ontario, Canada.

A marriage notice in "The Church," published in Toronto, Canada, on September 20, 1849, shows that "On Wednesday, 12th inst., at St. George's Church, Guelph, Elizabeth Ann, eldest daughter of B. Thurtell, J. P., to Charles, third son of Mr. Cooper, all of the West End, township of Guelph (Rev. E. M. Stuart)." This notice appears in the book "Marriage Notices of Ontario" by William D. Reid (Hunterdon House, 1980) which contains extracts from newspapers and periodicals published between 1813 and 1854.
