Notes for Philip Charles EVANS

The family tree done by Harriet Thurtell about 1900 and the History of the Thurtell Family done by Susan Persia Thurtell about 1968, both in the possession of Susan Persia Thurtell Miller, show Philip Charles Evans died on July 31, 1886, at 76.

Information received from Peter Murray in 1997 shows that on December 6, 1851, Anne married Philip Charles Evans, who was born November 21, 1809, and died July 31,1886, aged 76, of Bruinscombe Court, near Stroud, Gloucestershire .

He is shown as Philip C. Evans, age 71, born in Avening, Gloucester, England in the 1881 British Census CD. This shows him as a woollen manufacturer master and also a farmer with 17 acres employing two men and one boy. The dwelling is shown as Brimscombe Court; and the census place is Stroud, Gloucester, England. The source is FHL Film 1341614, PRO Ref RG11, Piece 2545, Folio 44, Page 29. He is living with his wife, Annie Evans, who is shown as 61 born in Malding, Essex, England; their son Edward E. Evans, who is shown as a woollen manufacturer age 24 born in Stroud, Gloucester, England; his mother-in-law Sarah Murray, who is a widow age 86 born in Lieden, Essex, England; and two domestic servants, Emily Howell, age 25, born in Cheltenham, Gloucester, England, and Julia A. Bratton, age 18, born in Wolverhampton, Stafford, England.
